H.R. 8330, the Big Oil Immunity bill, is a brazen attempt to put the fossil fuel industry above the law.

The bill would create a broad legal shield for fossil fuel companies against climate lawsuits, prohibit state climate superfund laws, and broadly preempt state and local climate policies. In plain terms, it would let Big Oil walk away from the damage it's done and leave taxpayers with the bill.

The committee was expected to hold a markup and possibly a vote on the Big Oil Immunity bill. It didn't happen. But the bill hasn't gone away. The committee can put it back on the schedule as soon as the House returns to session, and when it does, we'll likely have only a day or two of notice.
